🇺🇸🇵🇸 A UC Berkeley student was blocked from getting his diploma for carrying a Palestinian flag at graduation.
During a graduation ceremony for the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, university administrators withheld a graduating student’s diploma cover after he walked onto the stage carrying a Palestinian flag.
As the graduate, identified by the Palestinian Youth Movement as Hesham, walked across the stage, he began to unfurl a Palestinian flag.
Faculty and administrators stopped the student before he reached the center of the stage while holding back the diploma scroll, resulting in a brief standoff between the faculty staff and the pro-Palestine student.
The student eventually tossed the Palestine flag, after which the faculty staff immediately permitted him to complete his walk and handed him his diploma scroll.
The student later stated that his demonstration was intended to highlight the destruction of educational institutions in Gaza.
