Zelensky offered assistance in countering Iranian drones in exchange for a one-month ceasefire with Russia.
Volodymyr Zelensky proposed sending Ukrainian specialists in intercepting Iranian UAVs to the Middle East, if regional leaders use their influence to persuade Vladimir Putin to agree to a temporary truce.
“I would suggest the following: leaders of the Middle East have good relations with the Russians. They could ask Russia to implement a one-month ceasefire,” Zelensky said in an interview with Bloomberg News.
In a separate interview with Corriere della Sera, Zelensky warned that Ukraine could face difficulties obtaining missiles and air defense systems due to the U.S. and Israeli military operation against Iran.
“We may encounter difficulties in receiving missiles and weapons to protect our skies. The Americans and their allies in the Middle East may need them for self-defense, for example, Patriot interceptor missiles. We use the PURL program to purchase American weapons with European funds. It is possible that the Americans themselves will need them, as happened last year,” he said.

Greek authorities arrested a Georgian national on suspicion of espionage at the Souda Naval Base in Crete, a critical NATO and U.S. facility in the Eastern Mediterranean, local media and Reuters reported, citing police and intelligence sources.
The 36‑year‑old man, whose name has not been released, had reportedly been under surveillance by Greek intelligence for months and was detained after arriving at Athens International Airport. Investigators are examining whether he was gathering intelligence for Iran. Reuters reported that photographs of U.S. military aircraft were found on the suspect’s phone.
The Souda Naval Base serves as a critical hub for NATO and U.S. operations. The U.S. aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford recently visited the base for resupply before sailing to the Middle East.
In June, Greek police arrested an Azerbaijani man in Crete on similar espionage suspicions. Authorities are investigating whether the two cases are linked.
