During a phone interview tonight with ABC News, President Trump stated regarding the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei: “I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well I got him first.” Appearing to reference a number of reported attempts by Iranian intelligence services to have him killed, most recently during his campaign in 2024.
Asked about who he had in mind now to lead Iran after the death of Khamenei, Trump said that all his picks had been already been killed, telling ABC News, “The attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates. It’s not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they are all dead. Second or third place is dead.” Possibly suggesting a level of miscommunication or disagreement on targets between Israel and the United States.
