Protests over Iran’s soaring cost of living spread to several universities on Tuesday, with students joining shopkeepers ⁠and bazaar merchants, semi-official media reported, as the government offered dialogue with demonstrators. A sanctioned tanker heading to Venezuela attempted to evade U.S. forces by painting a Russian flag on its hull. The tanker, Bella 1, is on the U.S. sanctions list for transporting Iranian oil, The New York Times reports. Since December 21, the U.S. Coast Guard has been pursuing the vessel, originally bound for Venezuela to load oil. The crew painted a Russian flag on the ship and claimed Russian status. Bella 1 turned off its transponders, changed course, and appears to be heading toward Greenland or Iceland.
