She was attacked on her way to church in Brooklyn – but her faith never wavered

An 83-year-old Brooklyn woman is recovering after being slashed in the head while on her way to church in Brownsville. Betty Ellerbe says she was attacked around 11:30 Sunday morning while trying to catch a cab near Christopher and Pitkin avenues. She recalls greeting a man she had seen around her neighborhood before, but this time, she says he struck her twice in the back of the head while holding a large stick and a knife. Despite the violence, Ellerbe says she is holding onto her faith. Police say 36-year-old Shawnee Moore is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of an elderly adult. He was arraigned and is being held on bail.
