Marc J. Hetherington, Department of Political Science
Professor of Public Policy and Education, Vanderbilt University

We will look at the effects of political advertising as well as the changing art of political polling in an era when people avoid taking surveys. We will examine the potentially historic effects this election might have on the U.S. Congress and direction of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, we will explore questions about how we got here. How did Hillary Clinton secure the nomination, and where in the world did Donald Trump come from? Finally, we will tangle with bigger matters. In light of what’s happened, what is the future of American democracy?
