To stop Lukashenko from letting Russia use Belarus to open a new front, we need to completely change how we threaten him.
If he lets Moscow launch a new offensive, he must know the direct targets will be his personal safety, his inner circle, his economy, and his regime’s survival.
The rumors about Russia preparing a new push from the north are a serious threat to Ukraine’s defense strategy. Whether the attack targets Kyiv again or moves into Western Ukraine to try to choke off critical supply lines, it would force Ukraine to pull battle-hardened troops away from the intense fighting in the south and east.
Ukraine is actively preparing for this scenario, but stretching the front like this is exactly what Putin wants. It spreads resources thin and compromises areas that have been relatively secure.
Ukraine has already threatened Lukashenko directly, which is the right move, but Europe and the entire West need to stop hiding behind standard economic sanctions.
Dictators like Lukashenko care little about trade restrictions or GDP numbers, they care more about their own power and survival.
If the West, including Donald Trump (if he actually cared), actually wants to prevent this escalation, they must loudly back Ukraine. The warning to Minsk must be absolutely clear.
If a new offensive starts from Belarus, the retaliation will be non-stop, it will destroy their economy, and it will target Lukashenko and his elite circle personally.
Europe will fund the Ukrainian drones and missiles that will hit Belarus every single day. Lukashenko won’t survive it
