Ukrainian defense forces continue to carry out systematic strikes on the Mariupol-Taganrog highway, which is one of the main supply routes for the Russian army in the temporarily occupied southern territories of Ukraine. This was reported by Dialog after monitoring social media. In early May of this year, the first reports appeared online that the Ukrainian Defense Forces were actively destroying enemy targets on the Taganrog-Dzhankoy road, which runs from Russia along the coast of the Sea of Azov through occupied Mariupol-Berdyansk-Melitopol-Genichesk to annexed Crimea. This is an alternative overland route from Russia to the occupied peninsula, replacing the Crimean Bridge. The aforementioned route is located only approximately 100-160 km from the front line. Russian occupiers attempted to transport reserves, military equipment, ammunition, fuel, and lubricants to the front along it, but Ukrainian Defense Forces troops thwarted their plans.
In May, numerous strikes by Ukrainian long-range weapons against Russian targets were recorded along the entire Taganrog-Dzhankoy highway, including in occupied Mariupol. This raised alarm not only among the command of the Russian occupation army but also among Z-bloggers. For example, Alexey Zhivov, one of Russia’s most popular Z-bloggers, called the events “an extremely alarming signal” for the Russian occupation forces.
Russian logistics in the south are under serious threat, with drones destroying supply lines more than 100 km from the frontline. “Ukrainian unmanned aircraft have cut off two key roads used by Russian forces in the south. Trucks are burning, logistics are out of action,” said anti-Putin Russian analyst Yan Matveyev.
What matters more than his past is the content of his report – all the more so because Matveyev is far from the only one making this claim.
To get an idea of the area in question, the map by French analyst Clément Molin is useful. He published it, saying he expected an increasing number of Ukrainian drone attacks in the near future in the Doneck-Mariupol-Melitopol triangle. In particular, the route between Mariupol and Melitopol via Berdiansk is the “backbone” of Russian logistics in the south. “Enemy Hornets are flying unhindered in pairs over the Mariupol section of the R-150 route, seeking targets – primarily tankers and other military transport,” wrote Russian Z-blogger Romanov on his Telegram channel.
He warned that the same situation might emerge as on the M-30 road from Horlivka to Doneck. “Despite the fact that the frontline is more than 35 km away from the M-30, this route is currently paralysed due to the enemy’s FPV drones, and civilian traffic is completely banned,” Romanov said.
He also noted that, while in 2024 and 2025 the frontline was closer, the M-30 route was safer than it is today, which he linked to the increased range of standard Ukrainian FPV drones, whose reach “is extending faster than the frontline is moving”.
This Russian source also claimed that the deterioration was caused by Ukrainian drones using Starlink and that, in his view, they were additionally able to autonomously acquire and hit targets. If the trend is confirmed, the Crimea bridge will be the only route left for safe traffic, which will again increase its strategic importance and thus its military significance.

The Union government on Friday informed the Supreme Court that Indian nationals who joined the Russian Armed Forces during the ongoing conflict faced severe consequences.A bench led by Justice Surya Kant, along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pancholi, heard a petition filed by families of 26 Indian nationals. These individuals were allegedly misled into travelling abroad and later drawn into the war.The government stated that out of 217 Indian nationals who joined the Russian Armed Forces, 139 have been released after diplomatic efforts. At the same time, 49 individuals have lost their lives and 6 remain missing.Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati submitted before the Court, “about 217 Indian nationals had joined the Russian armed forces. After the diplomatic engagement, 139 nationals have been released from the contractual engagements, 49 nationals have lost their lives in the conflict and 6 nationals have been confirmed missing.”The Court also examined the situation of the 26 individuals whose families approached it. Among them, 14 have died, 11 are missing in action, and one is in custody in a criminal case.On the issue of returning mortal remains, the Centre said that the remains of eight deceased individuals have been handed over to their families. DNA verification continues in other cases to confirm identities.The petitioners raised concerns about the condition of the remains. Counsel submitted that bodies being returned are in a mutilated state and difficult to identify. In some cases, only partial remains reached families.This statement drew a sharp reaction from the government. The ASG objected to the description and urged that the matter should not be sensationalised.The Court also considered submissions regarding compensation. Petitioners claimed that Russian authorities are willing to offer financial support, including a lump sum amount and pension. However, they argued that these assurances are not effectively pursued.The bench responded, “we don’t know who is promising…if they want to give pension, let them give…who is stopping?
