A dramatic water rescue in Queens turned a terrifying situation into a life-saving moment – thanks to an off-duty firefighter who stepped in without hesitation. Severe thunderstorms flooded streets across the city, submerging vehicles and leaving drivers stranded – including on the Jackie Robinson Parkway. That’s where FDNY officials say a firefighter took action to save a woman trapped inside her car as water quickly rose around her. Video shows the intense rescue as the vehicle sits nearly submerged, with the firefighter climbing onto the roof and helping push the woman out through the sunroof.
The rescuer has been identified as Travis Langan, a firefighter with Ladder 123 in Crown Heights. The woman he saved is Carmen Pinto, a Brooklyn elementary school principal. Langan says when he realized someone was trapped, he didn’t hesitate – breaking through the car to help get her out to safety.
