Moscow would do everything that served the interests of Iran and the people of the Middle East to help achieve peace as soon as possible, Russian president told Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi during a meeting in St. Petersburg on Monday. The meeting comes amid stalled peace efforts between the United States and Iran to end the two month-long conflict. Over the weekend, Araghchi made two stops in Pakistan and a visit to Oman, which shares the strait with Iran. He also spoke by phone with counterparts in Qatar and Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Vladimir Putin met with Abbas Araqchi in St. Petersburg as Russia reaffirmed its strategic partnership with Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the Russian president said Moscow intends to continue strengthening relations with Iran and expressed hope that peace would come soon. Putin also praised the Iranian people for what he described as their courage in defending independence and sovereignty.
Araqchi thanked Russia for its support, saying Tehran considers its relationship with Moscow a long-term strategic partnership. He added that Iran values Russia’s stance and backing during difficult times.
Russia has previously offered to help mediate tensions in the region following strikes involving the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. Moscow has also suggested proposals aimed at reducing tensions around Iran’s nuclear program.
The meeting highlights the deepening political and strategic ties between Russia and Iran as geopolitical tensions continue to shape global diplomacy.
