The man accused of opening fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was charged with three counts in his first court appearance, including attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump. Cole Thomas Allen also faces charges of interstate transportation of weapons and discharge of a firearm during a violent crime.

Authorities are expected to reveal new details Monday on the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where a gunman allegedly targeted President Donald Trump and members of his administration.
Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is accused of opening fire inside the Washington Hilton on Saturday after rushing past a security checkpoint while armed with multiple weapons. He was taken into custody at the scene.
FBI Director Kash Patel, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro will attend the news conference. The timing of the conference is currently slated for 3 p.m. EST, however, CNN says the timing could change.
The annual event—one of Washington’s highest-profile gatherings of journalists and political leaders—was canceled and is expected to be rescheduled within 30 days.
Pirro said Allen faces multiple federal charges, including assault on a federal officer and using a firearm during a violent crime. Additional charges are expected. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
