Displaced Palestinians return to books as Gaza’s Phoenix library rises from the rubble

Displaced Palestinians browse books at Gaza’s new Phoenix Library, a youth-led initiative in the Rimal neighbourhood that aims to revive culture and literature during the war. The library houses a diverse collection of literary and scientific books, and includes a children’s section, its name reflecting Gaza’s rise from the rubble. “We retrieved the books from amidst the rubble many of which were in poor condition and proceeded to sort and clean them,” says library owner Omar Hamad.

Trump extends ceasefire, says giving Iran time to negotiate

President Donald Trump extended the US ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for peace talks, with Tehran silent on the decision early Wednesday. Trump indefinitely pushed back the end of the two week truce, crediting a request from mediator Pakistan and stressing the need to give Iran’s “fractured” leadership time to form a proposal. But he said the US blockade of Iran’s ports – a sticking point for Tehran – would continue.

Trump Extends Ceasefire Indefinitely, VA Redistricting Results, Warsh Fed Hearing

President Trump extends the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely as Iran calls the extension meaningless and accuses the U.S. of preparing a surprise attack. Virginia voters narrowly approved a ballot measure letting Democrats redraw the state’s congressional map, potentially flipping four House seats this fall. And Kevin Warsh told the Senate he wouldn’t be the president’s sock puppet at the Federal Reserve, but Republican Senator Thom Tillis is still threatening to block his confirmation until the Justice Department drops its investigation of current Fed Chair Jerome Powell. “Если раньше книги были последними свободными СМИ, и там можно было печатать всё что угодно, то сейчас они в центре запретительных мероприятий, и это очень печально. Российская власть очень уважает писателей, и это проявляется в том, что она их чрезвычайно боится – назначает их иноагентами, экстремистами и террористами. Власть боится книжек, и это говорит о её слабости”. Силовики задержали гендиректора крупнейшего российского издательства, “Эксмо”. https://smarturl.click/aRaz5
