It occurred only weeks into the war: after Russia evacuate the town, returnees found hundreds of bodies of men, women, children and elderly people who had been mass executed. A leading Iranian archaeologist has told FRANCE 24 that the destruction of Iranian archeological sites is destroying part of human history. Sepideh Maziar is a senior researcher and lecturer at Goethe University Frankfurt and a founding member of the Society for Iranian Archaeology. Along with her colleagues, she has built an interactive map of sites in Iran that have been damaged. The aim is to try to preserve the memory of the Iranian people and their achievements amid the constant bombing. We spoke to her in Perspective.
