U.S. Department of War prepares four possible “decisive strike” options in Iran
According to Axios, citing U.S. officials and sources, the options being presented to Donald Trump include:
– Invading or blockading Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub;
– Seizing Larak Island, which allows Tehran to control the Strait of Hormuz;
– Invading the strategically important Abu Musa Island and two neighboring islands claimed by the UAE;
– Capturing or blocking ships exporting Iranian oil in the eastern Strait of Hormuz.The Pentagon has also prepared a plan for a ground operation deep inside Iran to seize highly enriched uranium at nuclear facilities.
Alternatively, large-scale airstrikes are being considered to deny Iran access to this uranium.
According to Axios, the U.S. president has not yet made a decision, but if negotiations make no progress soon and the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, escalation becomes more likely.
