The United States abstained from voting on a UN resolution supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, saying it could interfere with ongoing peace negotiations.
Washington declined to back the document after its proposal to remove references to Ukraine’s territorial integrity was rejected.
U.S. representative Tammy Bruce said the country chose to abstain because supporting the resolution could hinder the current peace talks.
The resolution was supported by 107 countries, more than half of those voting, but fewer than in previous years when the UN General Assembly adopted similar votes.
