A feature of authoritarian regimes is to control the judiciary, law enforcement.
They especially like having a ‘secret police’ force at their disposal to snatch non-whites and other minorities off the streets, citizens or not.
The corrupt courts will do the rest for the regime unless they are disappeared into concentration camps in far flung places.
