tax rate overview – EisnerAmper

For 2015 and 2016, the first $1,050 of the child’s unearned income is tax-free. The next $1,050 for 2015 (and 2016) is taxed at the child’s marginal rate. Any excess of unearned income above $2,100 is then taxed at the parents’ marginal rate (assuming the parents’ rate is higher than the child’s).
