Ukraine claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Russia’s Taneco oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, sparking a large fire more than 700 miles into Russian territory. Taneco is one of the largest and most modern refineries in Russia, with a processing capacity of over 16 million tons of oil per year. While Ukrainian officials highlighted the refinery’s strategic importance in fueling Russia’s military, local authorities in Tatarstan denied the incident, asserting that images of flames were from a safety drill involving plant torches.
