Brooklyn man gets 30 years to life for killing 3 women in NYCHA senior building

A man who killed three women inside a NYCHA senior housing building in Brownsville has pleaded guilty and will spend 30 years to life in prison under a plea agreement. Kevin Gavin, now 71, admitted to killing Myrtle McKenny (82), Jacolia James (83), and Juanita Caballero (78) in separate incidents that occurred in 2015, 2019, and 2021, according to prosecutors. Authorities say all three victims lived at the Carter G. Woodson Houses, a senior NYCHA building in Brownsville. Prosecutors said Gavin also lived in the building despite it being designated for seniors. They alleged he gained access to the victims by building trust and offering handyman services. After his arrest in 2021, investigators say Gavin confessed on tape, admitting arguments over money with each woman turned violent. As part of a plea deal, Gavin pleaded guilty to three counts of second‑degree murder and one count of first‑degree murder. » Subscribe to News 12: https://bit.ly/4dyeWzd About News 12: News 12 is the exclusive 24-hour local news service dedicated to bringing you the best local news and information about your neighborhoods.
