First the Prime Minister, then the Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov, then Elchin Guliyev, Zakir Hasanov should be eliminated at the initial stage.JAMnews (@JAMnewsCaucasus)Azerbaijani media and analysts are debating what some see as a possible campaign targeting Prime Minister Ali Asadov after a pro-government outlet published a list of assets allegedly linked to him.
The Azerbaijani service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported that the website Qafqazinfo had published details of properties said to be associated with Asadov, including restaurants, banquet halls and hotels in different parts of the capital.
Asadov has not publicly commented.
Some analysts interpreted the publication as a possible signal of political pressure. Political analyst Gabil Huseynli said such practices were not new in Azerbaijan.
“When a decision is made to remove someone from office, public opinion is first shaped through exposés, and only then are decisions taken,” he said.
Former ambassador Arif Mammadov expressed a similar view, saying that reports about officials’ assets in pro-government media have often preceded action against them.
“In Azerbaijan, a pattern has formed: before a ‘blow’ is dealt to an official, reports about their assets appear in pro-government media,” he said.
However, Mushfig Alasgarli, a board member of the Press Council, rejected the idea that the publication was part of a coordinated leak.
“Experience shows that such articles are based on information gathered by Qafqazinfo from its own sources. Once their research is complete, they publish it,” he told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, adding that while such reports do not always lead to consequences, in some cases officials do face action.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty noted that public campaigns of this kind in Azerbaijan’s political landscape are rarely accidental. It said attempts to contact Qafqazinfo’s management for comment on how the material was prepared were unsuccessful.— https://x.com/JAMnewsCaucasus/status/2046558373076697188
