Firefighters battled a high-rise apartment fire late Monday night in Starrett City.
Units from Battalion 58 arrived at 45 Twin Pines Drive just after 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 21 to find heavy flames coming from a 19th-floor apartment in the 20-story building.
Engine Company 257 and Engine Company 290 quickly deployed multiple high-rise hose lines to extinguish the main body of the fire. Firefighters connected hoses to the building’s standpipe while Truck Companies from Tower Ladder 170 and Ladder Company 103 conducted searches of the affected apartment and the floor above, which found no residents trapped or injured.
More than 100 members of the Fire Department worked tirelessly to force open apartment doors and clear smoke from the building using high-pressure ventilation fans. Many residents evacuated the building, some carrying pets and valuables.
The fire was brought under control by 11:30 p.m. FDNY Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze.
Members of the Spring Creek Public Safety team and officers from the NYPD’s 75th Precinct also responded to the scene.
