The Kyiv Independent, in collaboration with KPMG Ukraine Gateway, has released the third installment of its Investor’s Guides to Ukraine — a must-read for foreign investors looking to navigate Ukraine’s business landscape.
The third guide, “Navigating Ukraine’s banking system,” covers how Ukraine’s financial sector operates under wartime conditions, existing banking restrictions, and key considerations for market entry.
“It’s not uncommon for investors to assume that banking in Ukraine is opaque, unstable, or disconnected from international standards,” says Oleg Goshchansky, head of the KPMG Ukraine Gateway initiative.
“These perceptions are often shaped more by past crises and recent wartime headlines than by the current reality. For informed investors, the challenge is less about banking risk and more about distinguishing between legacy narratives and current institutional realities,” he says.

Transgender women athletes banned from competing in female Olympic events in new IOC policy
The IOC announced the ban on Thursday after its executives voted to adopt the new policy. The ruling now means transgender women, as well as women with select rare medical conditions, are no longer eligible to compete in female categories, effective from the 2028 LA games.
