Backwards Office Chair Racing a Tradition in Kyotanabe, Japan

Workers in Kyotanabe, Japan participate in the annual office chair race, a tradition founded in 2010. Teams of three race to compete as many laps as possible within two hours. The event was started by Tsuyoshi Tahara, who was inspired by childhood memories of getting scolded by a teacher for playing with an office chair.

10,000 Drones A Year: RFE/RL Goes Inside The First German-Ukrainian Production Plant

In Bavaria, the first joint German-Ukrainian facility has begun manufacturing Ukrainian drones abroad. RFE/RL visited the workshop near Munich where Linza drones are assembled — the first of several joint ventures Ukraine is launching to expand military production across Europe. The facility employs dozens of Ukrainians, many of them refugees.

The Linza drone is designed for logistical support, capable of delivering essential supplies like water and first aid kits to front-line troops. For now, all units are being sent to Ukraine, but the project aims to eventually supply German and other European forces.

This development highlights the growing role of drones in modern warfare — and how international cooperation is reshaping military production.
