Six people, including three children, have died after record-breaking floods hit Russia’s Dagestan region, officials said on April 7. Russian President Vladimir Putin met with local authorities to assess the damage and coordinate emergency response.

According to Putin, three months’ worth of rainfall fell in a single day on March 30, causing the Gedzhukh reservoir to breach. Over 2,000 homes were flooded, power supplies disrupted, and road infrastructure, including bridges, severely damaged.

Authorities evacuated 6,229 people, including 1,300 children, while nearly 1.5 million residents across 11 municipalities have been affected.
