Lawyers for hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs urged a U.S. appeals court to overturn his prostitution conviction and prison sentence during arguments before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York.
Defense attorney Alexandra Shapiro argued that the trial judge improperly considered conduct related to charges for which Combs had been acquitted when determining his sentence.
Combs was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a high-profile federal trial in Manhattan. However, the jury cleared him of more serious charges including sex trafficking and racketeering.
His legal team says the sentencing decision relied on allegations involving former girlfriends, including Casandra Ventura, that were not part of the convictions. Prosecutors maintain the judge acted correctly and that the conduct was relevant to the case.
Combs is currently serving a four-year-and-two-month sentence at a federal prison in New Jersey and is scheduled for release in April 2028.
