Iranian drone footage of the two HC-130J Combat King II losses in Isfahan province raises a question the official narrative hasn’t addressed.
The images below a composite, clipped from Fars News Agency drone footage, that I assembled for analysis.
The two airframes are too close together.
During a CSAR operation onto an improvised strip in hostile territory, no crew would intentionally park two HC-130Js in that proximity. You land, you offload, you complete the mission and you egress. You don’t block the ramps of another aircraft or position your plane where it can’t takeoff if the other is disabled.
Therefore, it is my analysis that the wreckage distribution is consistent with a ground collision during landing operations, not a controlled scuttle due to being “stuck in sand or mud” and not a shootdown as Iran claims. Both aircraft appear to have been burned where they met.
The U.S. account of “mechanical issues” or a “malfunction” may be the most accurate thing either side has said about this.
