CNN polling shows just one-third of the public believes Trump has a clear plan to handle the situation in Iran. Americans’ already broad disapproval of US military action in Iran has grown since the start of the war, the poll found. Just 34% of Americans now say they approve at least somewhat of the US decision to take military action in Iran, down seven points from a CNN poll conducted just after the start of the war.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten runs the numbers to explain why the war isn’t helping President Trump’s approval ratings.

A Williston Park man is facing serious felony charges after Nassau County police say he violently attacked his 75-year-old mother inside her Broad Street home. Investigators say police responded to 23 Broad St. just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, where the victim told detectives an argument with her son, John Strano, 37, escalated into a brutal assault. Authorities allege Strano pushed his mother to the floor, repeatedly slammed her head into the ground, punched her multiple times, struck her with a metal object, and choked her before fleeing the home. Prosecutors said in court that Strano struck his mother more than three dozen times using a metal clamp, and police report that he allegedly yelled, “Why aren’t you dying?” and “Why are you still breathing?” during the attack. The victim suffered severe facial and head injuries, lacerations, and lost consciousness, but police say she was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition. Authorities located Strano about a mile away, where witnesses captured images of him being taken into custody on the baseball field at Center Street Elementary School, hours after students had left for the day. Nassau County police charged Strano with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the second degree, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and criminal possession of a weapon.
