Satellite imagery from Planet Labs and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, dated 3 March 2026, reveals substantial damage to the U.S. AN/FPS-132 Upgraded Early Warning Radar (UEWR) at Umm Dahal, Qatar (25.706626, 51.253632).
Contrary to U.S. claims of “minimal damage,” the imagery shows debris scattered across significant damage to the NNE-facing phased-array panel, which covers Iranian air space, and water runoff consistent with firefighting efforts.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed the radar was “completely destroyed” in a precision missile and drone strike on 28 February.
Qatari officials confirmed two ballistic missiles struck Al Udeid Air Base and a UAV targeted the radar, injuring eight personnel from shrapnel.
Valued at $1.1 billion and installed in 2013, the AN/FPS-132 is one of only six UEWRs globally, providing ballistic missile detection coverage from the Middle East to the Indian Ocean at ranges up to 5,000 km.
