Georgia’s Annual Inflation at 4.6% in February 2026

Georgia’s annual inflation rate stood at 4.6% in February, while consumer prices rose by 0.2% compared to the previous month, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on March 4.

Annual inflation was mainly driven by price increases in miscellaneous goods and services (9.8%) and in food and non-alcoholic beverages (9.5%). On a monthly basis, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages declined by 0.3%.

Within the category, the sharpest annual price increases were observed for fish (23.1%), bread and cereals (13.8%), fruit and grapes (13.3%), vegetables (10.2%), meat (9.6%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (9.4%), oils and fats (7.1%), coffee, tea and cocoa (5.9%), mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (5.3%), milk, cheese and eggs (5.3%).

The figures come amid the Georgian Dream government’s stated efforts to address high prices on food, medications, and gas, with one commission under the government and another under parliament set to examine the issues, alongside an investigation by the State Security Service.

Other contributors to annual inflation included restaurants and hotels (7.2%), health services (5.9%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.3%), while communication prices fell by 4.6%.

On a monthly basis, the largest price increases were recorded in miscellaneous goods and services (2.9%), transport (1.5%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.3%). Prices for furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance declined by 1.6%.

Why The U.S.-Iran History Just Hit A Violent New Chapter

Reaction from around the world pours in as the U.S. and Israel strike targets in Iran. Thousands of flights have been canceled across the Middle East and beyond as rattled markets react to higher oil prices. On Tuesday, President Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz signaled a unified front against the regime during a meeting in the Oval Office. Amid reports that the strikes were a preemptive move to neutralize a rapidly advancing Iranian nuclear program, the President acknowledged the risk of future instability while expressing hope for a domestic military stand-down. Alex Gray, former Chief of Staff to the National Security Council, breaks down what he believes led up to this weekend’s strike, the “downstream effects” of this escalation, and what it means for other global flashpoints like Ukraine and the South China Sea.Multiple direct military strikes by the U.S. and Israel have killed Iran’s top leadership, escalating decades of proxy tensions into a high-stakes, open confrontation. Senior fellow at the Ronald Reagan Institute Tevi Troy joins to discuss how the relationship devolved from a century-old alliance and celebratory parades into a modern struggle against a radical regime.
