EU leaders von der Leyen and Costa to sign substantial trade and defense deal with India

The European Union is set to conclude a major free trade deal with the world’s most populous nation, India.
The EU’s top two leaders — Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Council President Antonio Costa — are attending India’s Republic Day parade as guests of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two sides are also expected to sign a security and defense pact, Europe’s ‌third in Asia after deals with South Korea and Japan. The deal comes just days after the EU signed a free trade pact with the Mercosur countries in South America.
