BREAKING:

Swedish police have detained a 12-year-old boy who was hired and sent to a lower league football match with a gun to assassinate a gang rival.

The gang who had hired him had promised him $50 000 for the assassination.

The 12-year-old boy was given a loaded pistol with instructions to assassinate a specific football player wearing number 20 on his shirt during a lower-division men’s league match at a public sports field in Stockholm.

The boy arrived at the football pitch armed and ready to carry out the hit.

The target is linked to one side in an ongoing conflict between two criminal networks in Stockholm, which has been running for several years.

The assassination didn’t happen as the targeted player was injured and hadn’t shown up for the match.

The gangs in Sweden use ever younger hitmen, with 14 or 15-year-old shooters now being standard practice.

The youngest case was recorded last month when a 12-year-old carried out a fatal drive-by shooting in Malmö.

Another assassination attempt was stopped last moment in the city a year earlier when police stormed a hotel room and detained a 13-year-old armed with an AK47 on a kill mission.
