German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has sharply criticized US foreign policy under Donald Trump and urged the world not to allow the world order to collapse into a “den of robbers”, where the unscrupulous take what they want.
Reacting to the US military action in Venezuela, when President Nicolas Maduro was captured, Steinmeier said that global democracy is under attack like never before.
“There is also the collapse of values by our most important partner, the US, which helped build this world order.
We need to prevent the world from turning into a den of robbers, where regions or entire countries are treated as the property of a few great powers.
Active intervention is needed in threatening situations, and countries like Brazil and India must be convinced to protect the world order,” he said.
