Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro is set to make his first public appearance Monday in a New York courtroom following his dramatic capture by U.S. forces.
The hearing is expected to be brief and largely procedural for Maduro and his wife, focusing on whether Maduro has legal representation and whether he understands the charges against him, which include narcoterrorism, drug and weapons charges.

His comments to US magazine The Atlantic came as the country’s deposed president Nicolás Maduro was set to appear in a New York court on Monday.
Rodríguez, who served as Maduro’s vice president, will be sworn in as president on Monday in Caracas, at 08:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
The US accuses Maduro, who is charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences, of running a “narco-terrorist” regime, a claim he denies.
