Indian Air Force and Royal Navy conduct joint aerial exercise over Indian Ocean

Indian Air Force, Royal Navy conduct joint exercise over Indian Ocean

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Royal Navy conducted a joint aerial exercise over the Indian Ocean Region on October 14, 2025, featuring a variety of frontline platforms. The exercise included the IAF’s Sukhoi-30 MKIs, Jaguar fighter aircraft, and AWACS, alongside F-35B fighters launched from HMS Prince of Wales, reports 24brussels.

Details shared by the IAF highlighted that this coordinated mission aimed to bolster interoperability and mutual trust between the two forces, while reinforcing their commitment to regional stability. The exercise emphasized the strategic partnership between India and the UK in addressing security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

In parallel, Indian defense officials announced plans by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to extend the range of the Astra Mark 2 air-to-air missile to over 200 kilometres, significantly enhancing its capabilities. This development follows earlier projections that aimed for a range of approximately 160 kilometres.

Upcoming discussions within the Defence Ministry will address the procurement of approximately 700 Astra Mark 2 missiles, intended for integration into both the Sukhoi and Light Combat Aircraft fleets. The push for higher range capability reflects India’s ongoing efforts to develop indigenous long-range air-to-air missiles, crucial for maintaining a tactical advantage in Beyond Visual Range combat.

The previous version of the missile, Astra Mark 1, boasts a range exceeding 100 kilometres and incorporates advanced guidance and navigation systems. Collaborations across over 50 public and private entities, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, have been instrumental in the successful development of the Astra missile systems.

84th Precinct: Alleged thieves arrested after swiping cab driver’s phone

Alleged thieves arrested after swiping cab driver’s phone

Four men were arrested after they allegedly stole a cab driver’s phone in Downtown Brooklyn on Oct. 4.

The victim drove two men to their requested destination on Duffield Street at about 2:30 p.m, police said. When they arrived, the perps said they wanted to go somewhere else and asked for the cab driver’s phone so they could enter the address.
Once they had the phone in hand, though, they allegedly leaped out of the car and ran to Concord Street, where a white BMW was waiting for them with two other men inside.

Officers searched the area with the cab driver, who eventually spotted the getaway car near the corner of Broome and Bowery streets in Manhattan. Cops pulled all four men out of the car and arrested them and, while searching their pockets and the vehicle, allegedly found a knife and counterfeit U.S. currency.

Man trailed, attacked by pack of creeps

A group of attackers followed a man they allegedly know and physically attacked him during an attempted robbery on Oct. 5.

The victim told police he noticed the perps were following him just before 7 p.m., as he was riding the 4 train.

He exited at the Borough Hall station — pursued by the group -—and was walking down Court Street near Joralemon Street when theycaught up to him and tried to snatch his phone out of his hand, then began punching him in the face. The victim kept hold of his phone, but said the perps flashed a knife and threatened to shoot him before fleeing the scene.

Hyundai stolen by window-smashing carjacker

A Hyundai Elantra was broken into and stolen on the morning of Oct. 1.

Police said the victim parked their car, which had an FDNY parking placard on the dash, near the intersection of Concord and Prince streets at 5:30 a.m.

Just before noon, the victim found that the car was missing, and that the street where it had been parked was littered with broken glass from an apparent break-in. The car is not trackable, cops said, and had been pinged by license plate recognition tech since mid-September. Officers confirmed it had not been towed or ticketed and said the victim was in possession of both sets of keys.

Pickpocket demands ransom for stolen phone, cards

A thief demanded payment after stealing a man’s phone and personal items on Sept. 29.

The victim told police he had his phone, credit and decoy cards and passport in his back pocket while he shopped inside the Target store at 445 Albee Square that afternoon. At about 1 p.m., he realized he had been pickpocketed and reported the crime to the police. He was later able to get in touch with the person who stole his phone and items, but said the thief wanted him to pay $1,000 in exchange for the goods. Cops said the phone was tracked to an address in Brownsville, but had not yet been recovered.
