U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s war against facial-hair continues, with the War Department releasing an instruction Monday regarding a memo released in late August, directing commanders to initiate “involuntary separation” for Servicemembers who require a shaving waiver after more than one year of medical treatment, which is estimated to consist of around 10-15% of all Airmen, Guardians, Marines, Sailors and Soldiers currently in the U.S. Armed Forces, most of which are Black Americans who suffer from skin conditions like Pseudofolliculitis Barbae. Hegseth was quoted in the release stating, “The grooming standard set by the U.S. military is to be clean shaven and neat in presentation for a proper military appearance.”

Of the 1,101 to be discontinued, 463 had no student enrolments and weren’t taught in 2024, according to university’s proposal
The University of Technology Sydney will close its teacher education program and public health school as part of a sweeping restructure that would remove more than 1,100 subjects to return the institution to surplus.
The proposed cuts, released on Wednesday, are part of the debt-ridden university’s strategy to reduce expenditure by $100m annually, including previously announcing the cutting of around 400 jobs.
Under the change proposal, the school of professional practice and leadership would be closed as part of a plan to reduce the total number of schools from 24 to 15, and the faculty of law, business school and transdisciplinary school would be combined.
