Russia will seek binding guarantees to prevent Ukraine from ever joining NATO as part of any future peace agreement, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko. In comments published on Monday by the Russian media outlet Izvestia, Grushko stated that Moscow would insist on what he called “ironclad security guarantees” in any deal aimed at ending the conflict.A key element of these demands, Grushko explained, is the formal recognition of Ukraine’s neutral status, which would bar the country from joining any military alliances.
